Yep, me, Dexter, my son, my husband, five of our training team coaches, one of my gym buddies, one of our run group buddies and 39,989 of our other friends went out this weekend for a beautiful run, jog, wog, walk, dance or stroll down Monument Avenue. The weather was fantastic, the sun was out, spring was in the air.
And when time came for a costume change, it happened right there on the cobblestones.
Happily, there’s no photographic evidence of that part of the event, but we do have other pictures to share.
Seriously, the day could not have been nicer. Check out these pre-race pictures as all of the 10k participants, sponsors and vendors gathered in Monroe Park.
Time to get into our waves. And there were definitely waves and waves of people out. Hi, Friends!
And we’re off! Seabiscuit Dexter had us out of the gate at a healthy pace, but my son and Coach Bill were gone like a flash – they would finish the race in less than an hour. See you at the finish line, fellas!
Honoring a Beautiful Lady
This year’s 10k was special in many ways. The training team and race was a family affair, my son helped raise over $1,000 for the Massey Cancer Center, and Dexter and I can now put another notch in our race belt.
But there was something else that made this race extra important for me. I dedicated the run in honor of my dear friend, Dj Johnson, who is battling cancer with the amazing chutzpah and spirit that she brings to everything she does. The day of her most recent treatment, she arrived at the hospital dressed as the Easter Bunny, visiting fellow cancer patients and the pediatrics ward. She is a reminder that while there is breath, there is hope.
Thank you, Dj. For all you are and all you will be. I love you, Woman. And I know you appreciate a great costume.
Wishing you all a most Awesomeliciously Exquisite Day!
